Lorry Workshop Pits.
Precast concrete vehicle inspection pits and workshop pits, designed to HSE PUWER and ACOP L11. Built in C40/50 reinforced concrete with steel-edge protection, cable trays and integrated drainage. Sized for car, light commercial, HGV or PSV. Lead time 4–8 weeks; full structural calc and HSE-compliant detail drawings included.

How deep should a lorry workshop pit be?
How deep should a lorry workshop pit be? We supply two depths — 1.5 m (4'11") for low-loaders and 7.5 tonne lorries, and 1.3 m (4'3") for standard artics. The depth is the internal depth of the precast pit. Working depth always to PUWER 1998.
Main units are 6.4 t (14,110 lb) (deep) and 5.5 t (12,130 lb) (shallow). Side recesses cast-in for cables, airlines and lighting. Cast-in galvanised steel steps optional.

What depths are available? +
Two depths — 1.5m (4ft11in) for low-loaders and 7.5 tonne lorries, or 1.3m (4ft3in) for standard artics. The depth is the internal depth of the pit. The deep main unit weighs 6.4 tonnes (14,110 lb); the shallow main unit weighs 5.5 tonnes (12,130 lb).
Why precast over a fabricated steel pit? +
We believe our precast concrete workshop pits are far less expensive than steel-formed ones, and very quick and easy to install. Drop the section into the prepared excavation, level it, grout the joint, and you are running the workshop again very quickly.
How are the pits installed? +
Typical installation is to excavate the pit, lay a blinding base, drop the precast sections in by crane lorry, then grout the joints. We can arrange delivery of the complete kit by crane lorry to fit the units straight into position.
Lighting, cables and air services? +
The sides of the main sections have cast-in recesses you can use to run cables, airlines, and accommodate lighting — keeping them neatly out of the way. Pits can be supplied with cast-in galvanised steel steps to one end.
Lead time? +
Catalogue pit sections run 4 to 6 weeks. Bespoke depths or layouts run 8 to 10 weeks. Send the workshop drawing first — most details are resolvable in a 30-minute call with our team.
