Cantilever Walls.

No tie-back. Up and standing the same day.

When should you choose a cantilever retaining wall?

When should you choose a cantilever retaining wall? Pick cantilever when retained height runs above 3 m (9ft10in), the wall is permanent, or vehicle surcharge is significant. WCCP cantilevers go to 6 m (19ft8in), surcharge to 50 kN/m² (HA traffic), engineered to BS EN 1992-1-1 with a 50-year design life as standard.

Free-standing precast cantilever retaining walls, heights 1.5m to 6.0m (4ft11in to 19ft8in), surcharge ratings up to 50 kN/m² (incl. HA traffic LM1). Cast to BS EN 1992-1-1 (Eurocode 2) and BS EN 1997 (Eurocode 7) with a 50-year minimum design life, 120-year option on civils-grade specs. No tie-back required; engineered heel handles the moment. Lead time 4-6 weeks.

  • · Heights 1.5–6.0m (4ft11in–19ft8in)
  • · Up to 50 kN/m²
  • · Eurocode 2 + 7
  • · 50-year life
  • · LM1 traffic load
  • · 4–6 week lead

Common questions

What people ask about cantilever walls.

Five questions we answer most weeks. If yours is not here, ring the yard.

How is a cantilever wall different from an L-block? +

A cantilever wall has a continuous engineered heel — it is designed as a single structure with cast-in-situ joints. L-blocks are individual units sitting on hardcore. Cantilever takes a heavier engineered loading and a longer design life; L-blocks are quicker, cheaper and re-locatable.

Do you cast in situ or precast? +

Both options. We will precast the stem and ship to site with a cast-in-situ heel for fast install on heavy schemes. For smaller jobs, full precast units with a bolted heel are quicker still. Talk to the design team about which suits your programme.

Engineered to what code? +

Every cantilever wall we deliver is calculated to BS EN 1992-1-1 (Eurocode 2) and BS EN 1997 (Eurocode 7) for the geotechnical bearing and sliding checks. 50-year design life as standard, 120-year available on civils-grade specs.

What surcharge can I run? +

Up to 50 kN/m² at 6m (19ft8in) height — that covers HA traffic loading (LM1) plus a margin. Higher surcharges or seismic detailing on bespoke designs.

Lead time? +

4 to 6 weeks for the standard cantilever range. Bespoke heel details, exposed-aggregate facing or curved alignments run 6 to 10 weeks. Send the section drawing first — we can usually shave a fortnight off if you order early.
