Concrete Padstones for Steel Beams.

Cast to the engineer's schedule. Stamped before despatch.

A concrete padstone spreads point loads from steel beams to masonry or precast walls. WCCP cast padstones to engineer's schedule in C40/50 — bearing area, stamped drawings and dimensional tolerance to BS EN 1992.

Precast concrete padstones cast to engineer's drawing at 50 N/mm² @ 28 days compressive strength, sized to BS EN 1996 and produced under BS EN 13369. Standard range from 200 × 200 × 100mm (8in × 8in × 4in) up to 600 × 600 × 300mm (2ft × 2ft × 1ft) bearing blocks, for steel beam bearings, lintel ends and structural point loads. L-shape and bespoke sizes cast to engineer's schedule. Lead time 1-3 weeks (stock often available).

  • · 200×200 to 600×600mm (8in–2ft)
  • · BS EN 1996 sized

Where they go

Common applications.

Wherever a steel or timber beam meets a masonry wall, the padstone spreads the load. Domestic, commercial and civils — same product, sized for the load.

  • ·Steel beam bearings on masonry walls
  • ·Timber lintel and ridge beam supports
  • ·Concrete-frame beam-to-wall bearings
  • ·Portal-frame column base bearings
  • ·Domestic loft conversions and extensions
  • ·Industrial and warehouse roof support
  • ·Bridge deck bearing pads on civils schemes

Common questions

What people ask about padstones.

Five questions we answer most weeks. If yours is not here, ring the yard.

How do I size a padstone? +

Padstone sizing follows BS EN 1996 — characteristic compressive strength of the masonry wall divided into the beam reaction load gives the bearing area required. We hold a sizing table on the spec sheet for typical UB and UC beam reactions on Class B and Class M masonry. Send the beam reaction and we will spec it.

What concrete grade do you cast in? +

Every padstone — standard size or bespoke — is cast in concrete with a compressive strength of 50 N/mm² @ 28 days. Cast to BS EN 13369 with factory production control.

Are they reinforced? +

The 200×200mm (8in×8in) and 300×200mm (1ft×8in) are unreinforced — the load distribution is by mass alone. From 300×300mm (1ft×1ft) upwards we add a basket of B500B fabric to prevent splitting under concentrated loads.

Stock or made-to-order? +

Standard sizes are usually shipping within a week. Larger sizes and L-shape padstones are cast to order in 2 to 3 weeks. Bespoke sizes and shapes — say a 750×500mm (2'6"×1'8") for a portal frame — 3 to 4 weeks. Pad stones can be made in any size and shape that you require for your project.

Can I get them delivered with the rest of my order? +

Yes — we ship padstones on the same lorry as cubicles, panels or troughs going to the same site. Saves a delivery and gets everything to you on the right day. Mention it when you order.
