What are precast silage clamp walls?
Precast prestressed silage clamp panels at heights of 1.0, 1.2 and 1.5 m (3'3", 3'11" and 4'11"), cast in sulphate-resisting C40/50 concrete (CEM III/A) to BS 8500-1:2023 exposure class XA3 and designed to BS EN 1992-1 (Eurocode 2). Acid-resistant for grass, maize and wholecrop silage; vertical cantilever to 3.7 m (12'2") with no supporting posts. Lead time 3–5 weeks; FETF-eligible variants available.
WCCP prestressed clamp panels. Heights of 1.0m, 1.2m and 1.5m (3'3", 3'11" and 4'11") at thicknesses of 95mm, 145mm or 180mm (4in, 6in or 7in). Custom lengths to order plus 15' and 20' standard stocked lengths. The 180mm Vertical Cantilever Panels retain slurry to 3.7m (12'2"), silage with a 10-tonne (22,050 lb) vehicle surcharge to 3.2m (10'6") and earth to 3.4m (11'2") — with no supporting posts required.
- · 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.5m high (3'3"/3'11"/4'11")
- · 95 / 145 / 180mm thick (4/6/7in)
- · 15' & 20' stocked
- · Vertical cantilever
- · No supporting posts
- · 3–5 week lead
Prestressed Panels
Three thicknesses, three heights.
95mm, 145mm or 180mm thick (4in, 6in or 7in) at 1.0m, 1.2m and 1.5m heights (3'3", 3'11" and 4'11"). Custom lengths to order, plus 15' and 20' standard stocked lengths.
| Thickness | Heights available | Lengths | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 95mm (4in) | 1.0m (3ft3in), 1.2m (3ft11in), 1.5m (4ft11in) | Custom + 15' & 20' standard stocked | Lighter clamp side walls and bay divisions |
| 145mm (6in) | 1.0m (3ft3in), 1.2m (3ft11in), 1.5m (4ft11in) | Custom + 15' & 20' standard stocked | Mid-size clamps; cantilever heights reduced 0.3–0.4m (1ft–1ft4in) vs 180mm |
| 180mm (7in) | 1.0m (3ft3in), 1.2m (3ft11in), 1.5m (4ft11in) | Custom + 15' & 20' standard stocked | Standard clamp panels; vertical cantilever rated |
Vertical Cantilever Panels
No supporting posts required.
The 180mm panels retain to the heights below in cantilever — no supporting posts in the wall run. 145mm panels can be used in cantilever with retained heights reduced by 0.3–0.4m (1ft–1ft4in).
| Service | Retained height (180mm) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Slurry retention | 3.7m (12ft2in) | Maximum cantilever retained height |
| Silage with 10t (22,050 lb) vehicle surcharge | 3.2m (10ft6in) | Filling vehicle on top of stack |
| Earth retention | 3.4m (11ft2in) | No surcharge above retained level |

Common questions
What people ask about clamp walls.
Five questions we answer most weeks. If yours is not here, ring the yard.
What thicknesses do you stock? +
Our prestressed panel range is 95mm, 145mm or 180mm thick (4in, 6in or 7in), in heights of 1.0m, 1.2m and 1.5m (3ft3in, 3ft11in and 4ft11in). Custom lengths to order, plus 15' and 20' standard stocked lengths. We size each scheme on the run length, height and surcharge.
How tall can I retain with vertical cantilever? +
The 180mm Vertical Cantilever Panels retain slurry to 3.7m (12ft2in), silage with a 10-tonne (22,050 lb) vehicle surcharge to 3.2m (10ft6in), and earth to 3.4m (11ft2in). The 145mm panels can be used in cantilever mode with retained heights reduced by 0.3–0.4m (1ft–1ft4in). No supporting posts are required for these cantilever panels.
Why sulphate-resisting cement? +
Silage effluent is around pH 3.8–4.2 and rich in lactic and acetic acids. Standard Portland cement reacts and the panel face deteriorates. CEM III/A (ground-granulated blast-furnace slag blend) is far more resistant — it is what gives the wall a 30+ year service life in clamp service.
Can the panels take a tractor pushing against them? +
Yes — the structural design accounts for vehicle impact during filling. The 180mm Vertical Cantilever spec assumes a 10-tonne (22,050 lb) surcharge during filling. Push-wall details with thickened upstands available where you want extra protection.
Lead time? +
Catalogue panels run 3 to 5 weeks. The 15' and 20' standard lengths often despatch from stock. Spring is the busy clamp season; get the order in by mid-winter if you are commissioning for the May silage cut.
