Slurry Storage.

SSAFO 2018-ready. Six-month capacity, grant-friendly.

Precast slurry walls are SSAFO 2018-compliant, 200mm to 250mm thick (8in to 10in) at typical heights up to 4.0m (13'1"), designed to BS EN 1992-3 (Eurocode 2 part 3), with sulphate-resisting C40 up to C60 concrete and a 20-year minimum design life. WCCP supplies stage-2 SIG-compatible quotes; structural calculations available upon request.

Precast slurry store walls in the UK are typically 200 mm (8in) thick up to 3 m (9'10") retained height and 250 mm (10in) above that, designed to BS EN 1992-3 and SSAFO 2018. Walls must be impermeable (k ≤ 1×10⁻⁹ m/s) with a 20-year minimum design life.

SSAFO 2018-compliant precast slurry storage. WCCP prestressed panels at 95mm, 145mm or 180mm (4in, 6in or 7in) thick at heights of 1.0m, 1.2m and 1.5m (3'3", 3'11" and 4'11"), with custom or 15' and 20' standard stocked lengths. The 180mm Vertical Cantilever Panels retain slurry to 3.7m (12'2") with no supporting posts required. Cast in C40 up to C60 sulphate-resisting concrete depending on the job spec. Grant-ready paperwork supplied with every store.

Vertical Cantilever Panels

No supporting posts required.

The 180mm panels retain to the heights below in cantilever — no supporting posts in the wall run. 145mm panels can be used in cantilever with retained heights reduced by 0.3–0.4m (1ft–1ft4in).

Service Retained height (180mm) Notes
Slurry retention 3.7m (12ft2in) Maximum cantilever retained height (180mm)
Silage with 10t (22,050 lb) vehicle surcharge 3.2m (10ft6in) For combined silage / slurry yards
Earth retention 3.4m (11ft2in) No surcharge above retained level

Where they go

Common applications.

From a small Devon dairy adding 300m³ (10,590 cu ft) of capacity to a strategic AD-feed store — same panels, same paperwork, same yard.

  • · New SSAFO 2018-compliant slurry stores for dairy units
  • · Slurry Infrastructure Grant 2026 capacity upgrades
  • · Above-ground rectangular and circular tank walls
  • · Reception pits and pre-store buffer tanks
  • · Slurry separation and lagoon containment walls
  • · Anaerobic digester feed pits and storage
  • · Beef and pig housing under-slat slurry channels

Sizing tool

How much slurry storage do you need?

Plug in herd size, animal type and storage months — we will translate it into an SSAFO-compliant volume, the WCCP panel system that fits, and a panel-count estimate. All compute is on this page; nothing leaves your browser.

Number of animals on the unit.

Storage-period rules sit under the Water Resources (Control of Pollution) (Silage, Slurry and Agricultural Fuel Oil) (England) Regulations 2010 (as amended) and the separate NVZ / Farming Rules for Water minimum storage-period requirements, which vary by animal type and whether your unit is in a designated Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ). Six months is a common dairy planning benchmark — check your own NVZ status and current requirements before finalising capacity.

Based on 1.1m annual rainfall (North Devon regional average). Rainfall is spread evenly across the year here — winter storage periods collect more, so treat this as a floor.

Indicative only. Final design is site-specific to BS EN 1992 (Eurocode 2) with surcharge, freeboard and SSAFO 2018 capacity statement issued in the order pack.

Common questions

What people ask about slurry stores.

Five questions we answer most weeks. If yours is not here, ring the yard.

Are your stores SSAFO 2018 compliant? +

Yes — every slurry store we ship comes with the SSAFO 2018 capacity statement and the BS 8500 mix certificate. Structural calculations to BS EN 1992 are available upon request. The minimum 6-month storage requirement is the design driver, with freeboard and rainfall load added per the regs.

What concrete grade do you use? +

C40 up to C60 to BS 8500-1:2023, with sulphate-resisting CEM III/A or CEM II/B-V binder for aggressive-chemical class XA3 (DC-3 / DC-4 designation), depending on the job spec. Slurry pH and ammonium are nasty on standard cement — the SR mix is what gives the 50-year design life.

How thick a panel and how high can I go? +

Our prestressed panel range is 95mm, 145mm or 180mm thick (4in, 6in or 7in) at heights of 1.0m, 1.2m and 1.5m (3ft3in, 3ft11in and 4ft11in), in custom or 15' / 20' standard stocked lengths. The 180mm Vertical Cantilever Panels retain slurry up to 3.7m (12ft2in) with no supporting posts required. The 145mm panels can be used in cantilever with retained heights reduced by 0.3–0.4m (1ft–1ft4in). Final design to BS EN 1992; structural calculations available upon request.

Can you supply for the Slurry Infrastructure Grant? +

Yes — we have shipped panels for dozens of grant-funded stores already. We supply the capacity calc and SSAFO statement that goes with the grant claim, and we can recommend a contractor if you need install too.

What is the lead time? +

Catalogue thicknesses run 3 to 5 weeks. The 15' and 20' standard stocked lengths often despatch from stock. The grant rush in spring and autumn lengthens that — get the order in by early summer if you are claiming this round.
