Slurry Channels, Slats & Covers.

Six-month capacity. Cast in a day.

What size slurry channel do I need?

WCCP precast slurry channels come in three sizes — standard (1180×1100mm / 3'10"×3'7"), midi (875×780mm / 2'10"×2'7") and mini (480×370mm / 1'7"×1'3") — plus 8' diagonal slats. Manufactured to BS EN 14844 and BS 8500-1:2023, sulphate-resisting, 20-year design life. Catalogue lead time 2-3 weeks; matched slats and corner pieces cast on the same order.

What size slurry channel do I need? Size for at least six months' herd output (SIG / SSAFO 2018 expectation), with a 2% fall to the cross-channel and width sized to the slat span. Standard, midi and mini depths to BS EN 14844, cast in C40/50 sulphate-resisting concrete.

Cast-in-place slurry handling — channels, slats and covers, all from the same yard, all to the same standard. SSAFO 2018-compliant, cast in C40/50 sulphate-resisting concrete, geometry to BS EN 14844. Pairs with our V-Section Sand Channels range for mixed-bedding sheds.

Common questions

What people ask about slurry channels.

Five questions we answer most weeks. If yours is not here, ring the yard.

What's the difference between standard, midi and mini channels? +

Standard slurry channels (1100×1180mm / 3ft7in×3ft10in external, 1000×1000mm / 3ft3in×3ft3in internal) sit under cubicle housing where the full herd scrapes through them — that is the workhorse size. Midi channels (780×875mm / 2ft7in×2ft10in external, 700×700mm / 2ft4in×2ft4in internal) suit smaller groups, calf housing or yard runs where flow is lower. Mini channels (370×480mm / 1ft3in×1ft7in, 300×300mm / 1ft0in×1ft0in internal) are for tight detailing or very-low-flow areas. All three accept matching slat or solid covers from the same family, so you can mix sizes along a run if the layout demands it.

Can the slats take livestock weight? +

Yes. Our 8' diagonal slats are cast in C40/50 sulphate-resisting concrete to BS 8500-1:2023 and rated for cattle traffic — including the heavy-duty option for tractors and full-load loaders. The diagonal pattern self-cleans as cattle walk, the gaps are sized to AHDB recommendations to avoid hoof injury, and lifting eyes are pre-cast so they go in by HIAB without site cutting. We supply a heavy-duty variant if you want to drive a feeder wagon over them.

Are these compatible with sand-bedded systems? +

The standard slurry channel range is designed for slurry-only flow — sand will silt up the bottom corners. For sand-bedded dairy, pair this product with our V-Section Sand Channels (the V profile narrows at the base to keep sand moving on a 2% fall). The slats interchange between the two systems, so you can run a mixed shed with sand under the lying area and standard slurry under the loafing area off the same slat stock.

Lead time? +

Standard channels and slats from catalogue ship in 2 to 3 weeks from order confirmation. Heavy-duty slat variants and mixed-size runs need 3 to 4 weeks. Spring and autumn are our busiest seasons — get the order in early if your shed is going up to a programme. We deliver on our own HIAB fleet across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset same-week, and on planned runs to the rest of the UK in 2 to 3 weeks.

Do you supply the slats and channels as a complete system? +

Yes — that is the whole point of casting them at one yard. You order the slurry channels, the matching slats (diagonal or solid) and the lifting eyes as a single delivery, with conformity documentation to BS EN 14844 culvert geometry available on request. We will issue the install drawing showing chamber depth, fall, and how the slats sit on the channel rebate. We do not fit slurry channels — that is a wet trade for a groundworker — but we will talk your installer through the detail.
