Slip-resistant precast concrete cattle slats and gang slats — Surefoot grid finish cast in, 38mm (1½in) slots for adult cattle and 32mm (1¼in) for calves. Cast to BS EN 12737 in C40/50 concrete. 2.4m to 5m (7ft10in to 16ft5in) spans for dairy, beef and calf housing. Catalogue lead time 2-4 weeks.
A cattle slat is a precast concrete floor element with cast-in slots that let dung pass through into the slurry channel below. UK cattle slats use 38 mm (1½in) slots to BS EN 12737. WCCP slats add the Surefoot grid finish — 8 mm (1/3in) grooves at 50 mm (2in) centres — for the design life of the herd.

Slats are batch-tested to BS EN 12737 — every cast carries a date stamp and the test certificate is on file at the yard. Lifting eyes are cast in for tractor-and-chain set.

How slip-resistant is the surface? +
Every cattle slat we cast has the Surefoot grid texture — a precise pattern of grooves at 50mm (2in) centres, 8mm (about 1/3 inch) deep, in both directions. AHDB cow-flow research shows this finish maintains traction for the full 15-year design life. Worn slats are the single biggest cause of lameness in cubicle herds — a fresh-cast WCCP slat addresses that head-on.
What slot width should I use? +
BS EN 12737 sets 38mm (1½in) as the cattle standard for adult dairy and beef. Calf slats use 32mm (1¼in). Anything wider risks foot trapping; anything narrower stops dung clearing through. We cast to 38mm (1½in) as standard but can quote 35mm (1⅜in) for very young or smaller-stature beef.
Will they take a tractor? +
Yes — to the rated load. Our 3m (9ft10in) gang slat carries 30kN/m² imposed (about 3 tonnes / 6,614 lb per square metre), enough for any farm tractor with a feeder bucket. The 4m (13ft1in) twin-tee carries 25kN/m². For tracked machines or large telehandlers we engineer-detail bespoke spans with extra reinforcement.
How do they bed onto the channel? +
On a 75mm × 200mm (3in × 8in) bedding ledge cast into the channel wall, with a 10mm (about 3/8 inch) bedding-mortar joint and a 5mm (about 1/5 inch) gap to the next slat for thermal movement. The install drawing comes with the order. Set the slats with a tractor and chains through the cast-in lifting eyes.

Catalogue 3m and 3.5m gang slats run 2 to 4 weeks. Bespoke 4m and twin-tee profiles 4 to 6 weeks. Spring and autumn shed-build seasons book up early — get the order in.
