GGBS substitution
Ground granulated blast-furnace slag replaces a significant share of the Portland cement in our low-carbon mix. Slower set, lower clinker, materially lower embodied CO₂e per cubic metre.

We're working on measuring what we cast.
Most precast yards don't disclose carbon at all. We want to — by mix, on an EPD-aligned A1–A3 basis. We're not there yet: per-mix kgCO₂e/m³ figures are in development and will only go on this page once they're independently verified. Below is where the work stands, and what we're already doing to bring the numbers down.
Status
Where the disclosure stands.
We're scoping Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our standard mixes — C32/40, C40/50, C40/50 SR and a GGBS-substituted low-carbon mix — aligned to the BS EN 15804+A2 methodology and covering the A1–A3 life-cycle modules (raw-material extraction, transport to plant, manufacturing energy).
We won't publish a kgCO₂e/m³ number, an industry-average comparison, or a percentage saving until it's backed by an assessment we can stand behind and point you to. If you need an indicative figure for a specification now, ask at quote stage and we'll tell you honestly what we do and don't have.
Note: This page previously showed illustrative per-mix figures and a UK industry-average comparison. Those numbers weren't independently verified and have been removed. Full product-specific EPDs are targeted for the second half of 2026 — no figures will appear here before then.

What we're doing about it.
A roadmap on its own changes nothing. Four initiatives are live or in trial at the yard, ahead of the figures that will confirm how much difference each one makes.

On-site solar at the yard
Rooftop PV installed on the production sheds at Chilsworthy. Powers our oil-free compressor and the heated curing bay during daylight hours. Phase one live, phase two scoped.

Electric loader trial
Diesel teleporter on the yard replaced for a 90-day trial with an electric handler. Fuel data being logged against equivalent diesel duty cycles for the 2026 Q3 review.

100% UK-sourced aggregate
Crushed stone from Devon and Cornwall quarries inside a 60-mile radius. No imported aggregate, no port-to-yard haulage. Cuts the transport (A2) component of the EPD.
